About the event

Iain Tolhurst MBE, a local, award-winning organic farmer, will present the striking story of his beautifully crafted wooden yacht, Naida. The 11 metre (36 foot) wooden yacht was built on the lines of a New England fishing boat from locally sourced wood, including trees that fell in the 1987 storm. Iain will tell us about the building of this unique ketch, with all its ups and downs, starting with the great storm, the locally-sourced oak, cedar and pine timber used to build the craft, the 12-year build on the Hardwick Estate and the eventual celebrations when the ketch was finally launched into the River Thames at Pangbourne.
This event will start half an hour earlier than our usual meetings. Please be there at 7 for 7.30pm
